Deep-Sea Pressure Housings made of Concrete

The aim of the project is the investigation of suitability of high-strength concrete as material for underwater pressure vessels to provide a low cost alternative to expensive titanium or aluminum containers. A suitable concrete composition and reinforcement must be identified and the effects of the marine environmental conditions on this material, especially with regard to possible corrosion (water, sulfates, chlorides, etc.) should be investigated. In addition, the container structure will be optimized according to the load. Basic research is needed in the design of the seal to manufacture resealable container.
